Table Mountain

2008/10/23
It was the middle of the week and we decided to climb Table Mountain, because another class-mate, Volker from Hamburg, had his last week and hadn't seen the top mountain so far. Having only been able to start in the late afternoon, we didn't hike the mountain, as it has been our plan before. Instead we used the cable car, which is quite expensive and the reason why we might not do it again. Nevertheless, in the cable car we had a fantastic view, though the air was quite chilly. Having reached the top, we saw the reason, why it is called a plateau. Although there were some rocks, we mountain really end there in a big plateau with nearly any special heights.
Afterwards we went to the Waterfront for dinner and a nice chill out at the Irish pub.
problems with the sleeping bag and the ground I was lying on. I had found a cheap sleeping bag, I was also going to use for the planned Orange River trip. At this night I realised, that the bag made a lot of sound when moved from side to side. What's more, I'd searched for an inflatable mattress in Cape Town but couldn't find any. That's why I was lying on several pillows. On the other hand I didn't hear anything of the storm.
After a nice breakfast with a huge fruit salad, musli, yogurt and much more we explored the area of the farm. In the evening Minelle took us to Wellington and explained a little bit of the history of the small city. On our way back, we stopped at a leather factory and visited the factory shop there. We rounded the day up with some sunbathing and a
Wellington

2008/10/25 - 2088/10/27
On Tuesday we went to Canal Walk for dinner and our ex-teacher Minelle - she changed the school she was working at - invited us to an relaxing weekend in Wellington. She had been asked to take care about the farm of her godparents and so we had the opportunity to sleep there in tents. A fully prepared weekend sounded quite good and that's why we started on Friday after school, just in time to catch the rush hour. Actually, catching the rush hour was not a problem as it started every Friday at 6 pm and went on till 9 o'clock.
Minélle was extremely well prepared. She had cooked in advance and borrowed the van from her father. Only little shopping was left, we did in the Spar supermarket in Wellington. All in all we were 7 people, Minelle herself, Mirjam, Daniela, Nicole, I and the two Korean girls, Hejan and Dahun. We arrived at the farm at about 6 pm and put all our luggage in the small garden hood, which was on the property of the farm. Unfortunately the wind was that strong that we weren't able to use tents. What's why we decided to sleep in the shed, which was built for only two to three people. This evening we finished with a nice braai (which is nothing else than the South African word for barbecue) and an action movie from DVD.
On Saturday we went up at 8 am. The hole night the wind was blowing and most of us couldn't sleep. I for myself had
viewing of the sunset from a mountain pass. (please have a look at the picture :-) In the evening we had a second fantastic braai.
On Sunday we woke up at 6 am and prepared everything to leave early. After loading the van, we intended to leave. But as the car had been staying all the night on the loan, the grass was wet and slippery. We tried several times to get up the little hill, which the car was standing on and whose lower end was a lake. But every time we went further down instead up. After several attempts, the car was near the lake and our only chance was pulling it out with the tractor. There was one last moment of fear, when in the first attempt, the rope, we used to tie the bus up, snapped. But the impressive power of the tractor helped and we could start our travel. The first stop was Hermonus, where we went whale watching for some time. We also enjoyed our breakfast there. Later on we went to Minelle's parents home, having a typical South African lunch there. So we met here parents and siblings and a lot of there pets, as they have a parrot, a canarian, a chameleon, geese and loads of other birds.
It was only 5 PM when we were home but having not slept long in the morning, we were quite exhausted.
